Welcome!

Caged Birds Sing is a Chapman University thesis film made by several ambitious and passionate students. In order to produce this project we need YOUR help! Please browse through this site to learn more about the project, the team, and how your contribution helps bring this story to life.

Caged Birds Sing is a film inspired by the first Afghan female band, Burka Band. The strength of their voices drew my attention and inspired me to learn more about the daily lives of Afghan women. Then, I decided to write my senior thesis film around women's resilience and the power of their voices within an oppressive society. With a major female led key crew, our film's purpose is not to present female suffrage within fifteen minutes, or simply ask audiences to step into someone else's shoes. Instead, it aims to connect viewers with the characters through visual storytelling, sound, and emotionally intense rhythm. Film is a powerful medium that can inspire, challenge, and create change. With this opportunity we hope to amplify unheard voices and bring awareness to their communities, even if our impact is small.
